ORGANISERS of a new ultra marathon due to take place in a matter of weeks have said they are working with the council to avoid a route clash with an established charity event.

The Run to the Sea 50k is scheduled to take place across a multi-terrain route on Saturday, March 28. A course listed on the event's website sets off from Ringwood and follows the Castleman Trail before heading along Holes Bay and Poole Harbour.

The route finishes at Hengistbury Head, however the initial plan to run along the seafront in Bournemouth clashes with Bournemouth Hospital Charity's March for Men fundraiser.

A spokeswoman for Run to the Sea organisers UltraViolet Run said: "We have been working together with BCP council to tweak a section of our 50k route in order to avoid the March for Men event. Everyone concerned is aware of the situation and we are all working together to make sure both events go well."

The ultra marathon is fully booked and entries are closed although, as reported last week, concerns have been raised online by some runners that the event had not been given the all clear from BCP Council.

Other worries have been highlighted over whether there will be marshals on the route's 33 road crossings.

The UltraViolet Run spokeswoman said: "We communicate directly regularly with all entrants to our races with general race information and have reassured those entrants to this race who have expressed specific concerns.

"We will of course keep our runners updated as race day approaches."

A spokesperson for BCP Council's tourism team said they are still working with Run to the Sea organisers to find a suitable route.

The March for Men is in its seventh year, with the aim of highlighting men's health.

To date the event has raised almost £100,000, with this money going towards improving care for men's health patients.

The march sets off from Pier Approach at 9.30am with a 1k, 5k or 10k route.
