A MYSTERIOUS, pulsating humming noise has plagued the lives of a couple in Kinson for nearly a year.

Since May 2019, Angie and Michael Roberts have been hearing a mysterious humming noise which varies in volume and pitch and occurs at random intervals.

Angie suffers severely when the noise is heard, and has resulted in her developing heart problems, having ongoing headaches and a lack of sleep.

A white noise machine was purchased to try and ease the intensity of the noise, but to no avail.

After many sleepless nights, the couple decided in autumn last year that something needed to be done.

Angie explained: "We have an electrical substation next to our house so we contacted SSE but they couldn't find anything that linked the noise with the substation. The SSE employee could hear the noise, even after she shut the substation."

"We also turned all of the electric off in our house one evening and could still hear it." Michael added.

Their next port of call was the Environment Department at BCP Council, as well as their housing officer.

Angie's distress increased when she was presented with the option of moving to an area where the noise could not be heard.

She said: "I have lived in this house for 24 years, why should I move?"

Angie and Michael frequently drive around Bournemouth and the surrounding areas to try and pinpoint the source of the noise, which affects fellow Bournemouth residents too, but have not found a specific source of the noise.

Angie said: "We have heard it in Wallisdown, Winton and Ferndown yet can't find anything. But when I visit my daughter in Ashley Heath I don't hear it.

"We mentioned it on Facebook last year, and I was absolutely shocked at the response I got from people who also hear it. Some of our neighbours hear it too."

With no conclusive explanation for the mysterious humming noise and nowhere left to turn to, Angie and Michael have reached the end of their tether.

"I feel so alone, no one is interested," said Angie.

"I've been in tears - there's no escape."

A Council spokesman said: "Officers visited and investigated a complaint relating to an electrical substation. Whilst there was a slight hum which would be expected coming from the substation it was not deemed to be a statutory nuisance. We cannot find any other complaints relating to this matter from other residents.

"We haven’t had any contact from the person who was being affected since November last year but we would be happy to look into the matter if there is a further problem."
