A flood alert has now been issued for the River Ebble and tributaries with warnings of possible flooding between Alvediston and Nunton.

The Enivronment Agency says: "River levels have risen at the Ebbesbourne Wake river gauge as a result of the ground being saturated and reacting to further rainfall.

"Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for tributaries between Alvediston and Nunton. Further rainfall is forecast today. We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures."

A further alert has been issued this afternoon in relation to the Upper Avon and tributaries as river levels have risen at the Upavon East river gauge.

The Environment Agency says there is a possibility of flooding between Upavon and Salisbury.

It said: "Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures."

A warning posted on the Salisbury Police Facebook page urged driver to take care on their journeys due to water on the trees and the possibility of Storm Jorge bringing down more trees.

The post said: "Do all take care on your journeys and be aware of changing conditions as you move around the county, particularly when going to main to minor roads."
