OFFICERS arrested a man on suspicion of drug-driving offences after being drawn to a vehicle parked on zig zag lines.

Members of the Dorset Police No Excuse team spent Friday evening in Bournemouth and spotted the car.

It was reported that when officers approached the vehicle, they could smell cannabis coming from it.

An officer from the team said: "The driver stated he had recently smoked some.

"He was subsequently tested on a drug wipe and provided a positive result.

"He was promptly arrested (for the first time ever) and then released to await blood results.

"Some drivers don't understand - illegal drugs stay in your system longer than alcohol!

"Hopefully after this experience he will understand the severity of it and tell his friends & family to stay away from drugs if they drive."

Officers went on to carry out speed checks in Ringwood Road and on the Wessex Way.

Five offences were reportedly dealt with in a short period, with all recording speeds that were in excess of 50 per cent over the 40mph limit.
