Do you remember when the shops at the Hampshire Centre at the start of the 70s?
Pictured here are stores, Consuma, a Toy shop, Bargate Drugstores, Carpet Centre and T.H.Sperring along with the National Westminster Bank.
The Hampshire centre opened in 1968, popular as it was in its early days, some of the units at the centre became vacant by the mid-1970s, and the western end of the site was eventually rebuilt to house Sainsbury’s and several other shops.
In 2001, work began on demolishing the Hampshire Centre to make way for the present day Castlepoint.
