Up to 100mm of rainfall is predicted in parts of Cumbria - as an Atlantic weather system is expected to hit northwest England.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office, with predicted rainfall totals of between 70mm and 100mm between 6pm tomorrow (February 19) and 3pm on Thursday.

The forecaster says the following can be expected:

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings;
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services;
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures;
  • Given the saturated nature of the ground this may lead to some flooding;
  • Rain is likely to be heavy, especially over high ground, during Wednesday and Thursday which may lead to some flooding and travel disruption.

Parts of the Lake District, south Cumbria and the Eden Valley are to be affected.
