A SCHOOL for people with autism has been rated “good” by Ofsted, just a few months after opening.

Aurora The Beeches in Cranborne opened in September 2019 and caters for pupils aged between 14 and 16 with autism.

The report said staff cherished pupils and created a “warm and caring relationship” which ensured a “calm learning environment”.

“Every pupil has an individual plan that is tailor-made for them. Leaders ensure that communication, reading, writing and mathematics are at the heart of the pupils’ curriculum,” the report stated.

However, the report also stated that he school’s reading programme had not been implemented “robustly” which meant some pupils did not want to read and teachers’ expectations of pupils’ writing were not consistently high.

Interim principal Lloyd Richards said: “To get good in just five months of opening is a tremendous achievement. Our dedicated staff have worked tremendously hard to build up the school from scratch to this point.”
