AN APPEAL has been launched after a British bulldog got swept away by a fast-flowing river.

Dog Jay had jumped into the river in Southover, Frampton, Dorchester, on Thursday.

The owner owner tried to rescue the dog but the river was flowing too fast.

A search was made of the area and further towards Dorchester but Jay has not yet been located.

As the river was running very fast, police say the bulldog may be located well away from the initial entry point.

Anyone who finds the dog, is asked to contact Dorset Police quoting message 13:0177 on 101.

The dog warden has been informed and the fire service have assisted the search.
