A CELEBRATION event to mark the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union is set to take place at a New Forest pub.
Janette Duke, who is a New Forest district councillor for Boldre and Sway, has decided to organise the social occasion on Friday evening at the Borough Arms in Lymington.
She said she hopes the We’re Backing Britain Party, which will coincide with the UK's exit at 11pm on January 31.
Asked about he reasons for organising the event, Ms Duke said: "Going back to 2010, I was Mayor of New Milton and I took community on as my theme. I organised quite a few public events.
"With all the negativity of the last three-and-a-half years, I thought it would be nice to celebrate being British and having a good knees up.
"I started by inviting a few friends but more people started to take an interest so I put it public on Facebook.
"I have always supported it (Brexit). I have been in favour. I think it is a good way forward. I hope we will work with our European friends but as the EU has grown, I think it is in our best interests to leave."
All are welcome to attend the We're Backing Britain Party, which starts at 7.30pm.
