A DRIVER who has ‘never passed her test’ was spotted behind the wheel of a car which had five children inside last week, police allege.

None of the youngsters were wearing seatbelts, police reportedly discovered when they pulled the vehicle over in Garland Road, Poole. There were also no proper car seats installed.

Officers from Dorset Police’s No Excuse team claim they discovered the driver had travelled from Dorchester to Poole – a distance of around 25 miles. They seized the grey Ford, and the woman is due to appear in court charged with driving offences.

An officer from the team alleged: "Between speed checks and assisting in other areas, this vehicle has just come to the teams' attention when it drove past us and four young children's heads could be seen in the rear of the vehicle.

"There was also another child in the front.

"This stop was in Garland Road, Poole, the vehicle had travelled from the Dorchester area... not good.

"The driver didn't have insurance, she has never passed her driving test and only holds a provisional licence.

"It's also unclear if she had permission to drive this vehicle at this time from her dad.

"The vehicle was seized and the driver reported to court.

"The sad thing was the five young kids had to walk the final short distance to their friends – but at least they are all safe.

"There is no excuse to have children in a car with no seatbelts or proper seats.

"Please think before you drive."
