A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital after he was assaulted outside a Boscombe pool bar.

The injured man, aged in his 60s, was found in a doorway near Bar 7 in Christchurch Road on Saturday night.

Police received a report at 8.50pm from the ambulance service that a man had sustained serious injuries.

It was reported that the man had been involved in an altercation inside the pool bar at around 7.30pm and was subsequently assaulted outside the premises.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that police have described as "potentially life-threatening".

Following enquiries, a 56-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. He is assisting detectives with their investigation.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Ben Swain, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.

“I understand there were a number of people in the area at the time and I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the alleged assault outside Bar 7 as well as anyone who saw the injured man in the doorway or how he came to be there between around 7.30pm and 8.40pm on Saturday 25 January.”
