A Dorset rugby player who took his own life earlier this month will be honoured at a match today.

A minute’s silence will be held for Jamie Davis, who was a player for East Dorset RFC, before Bridport’s match with the club.

Jamie, 30, went missing from Christchurch on January 10 and his body was found in the early hours of January 11 in the Totton area of Hampshire.

A memorial fund has been set up in memory of Jamie, an ex-rifleman, which has already raised more than £7,000. A raffle will also be held after the game on Saturday to raise money for the fund.

A spokesman for East Dorset RFC posted on social media that the club was ‘heartbroken and devastated’ that their prop and number three, Jamie, took his own life and members of the club would like to extend their condolences to his family.

Bridport RFC were due to play East Dorset on Saturday, January 18 but the game was postponed in light of the circumstances.

Julian Hussey, chairman of Bridport Rugby Club, said: “At this tragic time our hearts go out to Jamie’s family and on Saturday we will be honouring his memory with a minute’s silence before kick-off, and after the match we will be holding a raffle, the proceeds of which will go towards the memorial fund which has been set up in Jamie’s memory.”
