A MAN has appeared before the courts over an alleged attempted robbery of a Bournemouth convenience store.

Benjamin Carruthers, of no fixed abode, appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with attempted robbery, assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. As reported, police were called at 9.05pm on November 29, 2019, to a report of an incident at Wallisdown News in Wallisdown Road.

Police said it is alleged that a man threatened a staff member with a knife and demanded money to be emptied from the till. A reported altercation occurred during which the staff member sustained a hand injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Carruthers, 39, did not enter a plea to the charges.

He is due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on February 21. He was remanded in custody.
