BOURNEMOUTH Airport was one of the coldest places in the UK last night.
Wimborne-based weather forecaster Wessex Weather said temperatures dipped to a chilly -4.4C.
The forecaster said it was the fourth coldest location in the UK.
Benson in South Oxfordshire was the coldest with -5.3C recorded.
Wessex Weather said: “The 2m temperature is currently -3.1°C near Wimborne #Dorset, the coldest since 5th December, and the winter so far. And is so often the case in weather like this, Bournemouth Airport is one of the coldest spots in the UK.”
Wessex Weather said most official temperatures are measured between 1.5m and 2m from the ground.
He said: “The ground temperature can be significantly lower than this, in last night’s case probably-6°C or even lower. This is why car ice warnings flash up around +3-4°C, because road surfaces could then be below zero.”
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for fog which is valid until 11am today.
Today will see sunny conditions before things turn cloudier from tomorrow.
Heavy rain is expected on Monday.
