They went to Leeds Road to buy cannabis and on to Morley Street where Mr Ayaz bought a bottle of Jack Daniels.

At 8.30pm, Mr Muhammad dropped Mr Ayaz off opposite the business centre in Halifax Road, Denholme.

“Fizzy seemed fine,” Mr Muhammad said. He walked off with cigarettes, cannabis, the whiskey, a bottle of Coke and his phone.

“It was just like he was going to chill and enjoy,” Mr Muhammad stated.

Tattoo artist, Richard Oliver, who rents Unit 3 at the business centre, said there was a strong smell of cannabis and loud music from next door.

The walls were thin and in the days before the killing, he heard a man on the phone demanding: “You f***ing owe me money,” and someone laughing.

On July 1, Mr Oliver said that he saw drag marks in the corridor from Unit 2 and thought that was “out of the ordinary.”

Detective Constable Sophie Barritt, from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said Sirmad Hussain showed the police where Mr Muhammad had dropped off Mr Ayaz the previous evening.

There was a light on in the business centre at a unit with a sheet over one window. There were the shadows or silhouettes of two people standing close to the window. The unit had red graffiti on the back wall.

The following day, a search warrant was executed at the centre and the CCTV system seized.

On Monday, the jury will hear agreed facts gleaned from the evidence of the team of scenes of crimes officers that examined the building.

The trial continues.
