MYSTERIOUS flashing lights in the skies over Bournemouth caused much confusion last night.

The lights were seen coming from near Bournemouth’s Asda store at St Pauls.

A few of those who saw it took to Twitter to share footage of the unusual sight.

One eyewitness said: "Something strange was happening in the sky last night... Lightning?”

Jay Vincent also managed to capture footage of the incident.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said a crew from Springbourne was called to Bournemouth railway station at 10.24pm.

A spokesperson said the crew was called to reports of a possible fire on the track.

Network Rail said the incident was believed to have been caused by a “small piece of debris” which had likely been blown onto the track due to high winds.

The spokesperson said the debris caused a short circuit on the track, which caused the rail to flash and a small fire as a result.

The spokesperson said: "There was no damage to the track, and train services resumed shortly afterwards once the fire was put out.”
