Local schoolchildren shared the tale of how an area of neglected heathland, notorious as the haunt of criminals, became one of the most popular holiday resorts in Europe.
These pictures show the youngsters at Hengistbury Head on January 14, 2000, working on a video that was seen by thousands of visitors to the Millennium Dome.
Sponsored by fast food outlet McDonald's and led by the education authorities and library boards, communities from all over the United Kingdom told stories of the past and present.
The Bournemouth project launched with 13 schools and learning services taking part.
