SLOW down! That's the new year message to motorists from Dorset Police's No Excuse team.

It comes after the team said a commercial vehicle was stopped after travelling at 75 mph in a 50 mph zone during a recent operation.

A spokesman for the team said: "Happy new year everyone, hope a good time was had by all. Please help us make 2020 a year of fewer road traffic collisions.

"If everyone slows down accidents will be prevented and we will all benefit. Please help us get the message out there, slow down, take an extra few minutes for journeys and get there safely. No Excuse."

The No Excuse campaign supports Dorset Police's priority to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on the county's roads.

The message going out is that there is ‘no excuse’ for bad or careless driving and riding on Dorset’s roads.

The campaign aims to stop drivers from committing any of the 'fatal four’: speed; driving whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol; failing to wear a seatbelt; using a mobile phone/distraction.
