YOUNG stars of the stage are being invited to audition for Mayflower Theatre's newly commissioned Mayflower 400 musicals and dance show.

Local performers aged 12 plus will be auditioning for their part in the 400 year commemorations of the Mayflower ship leaving Southampton for the New World, which will be performed on the Mayflower Theatre stage in the summer of 2020.

The three productions are Hourglass, Compass and Drift.

Hourglass is a brand new musical filled with mystery and humour, which celebrates the power of courage and hope. Combining historical fact with fantastical fiction (by way of Jules Verne and Lewis Carroll), the show will incorporate a company of both professional and community performers aged 12 and over to sing and act.

Compass is an uplifting coming-of-age story filled with trepidation, friendship and hope following the journey of Liya, a young adult with a passion for aviation. We join a group of teenagers as they prepare to leave college and make choices about what they will do next in their lives. Compass will be the Summer Youth Production for young performers aged between 12 and 18.

Drift is a new dance production incorporating awe inspiring aerial artists and dynamic contemporary movement in a timeless world, inspired by The Mayflower passenger’s legend with a company of professional and community dancers. For Drift the theatre is looking for dancers aged 14 and over.

Sara Scott, Mayflower Theatre’s Head of Creative Learning said, “We are delighted to offer this opportunity to the local community to perform on our stage in what is after all a local story to commemorate the events of 400 years ago. I encourage you all to register to audition for what will be an exciting summer of projects in 2020.”

Auditions for Compass and Drift will take place on March 21, 2020.

Auditions for Hourglass will take place on March 21, 28 and 29, 2020.

All three projects will take place in July and August next year.
