2020 is set to be another big year of music as some of Britain’s most exciting bands tour the South and local acts headline their own shows.

Big names like The Killers, Blossoms and The Sherlocks are all booked in to appear in the city, while various celebrated live music venues including The Joiners and Heartbreakers will bring the best new acts to Southampton.

Local band Pioneers, who have previously played The Joiners and Engine Rooms, have their biggest headline gig so far at the 750 capacity The 1865 on Friday March 13 and Southampton singer-songwriter Calum Lintott and his band have their own headline show booked in at the same venue on Saturday April 25.

After recent performances by rock n roll legends The Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart, St Mary’s Stadium, the home of the Saints, hosts The Killers on Wednesday June 3. The Las Vegas band, who are fronted by songwriter Brandon Flowers and have scored five number one albums from their back catalogue over the years, will be joined by Stockport indie rockers Blossoms, who sold out 02 Guildhall Southampton back in 2018.

Before that, fans can see Blossoms when they headline 02 Academy Bournemouth, with support from New Forest alternative / indie rockers The Magic Gang who previously impressed on the main stage at Common People on Sunday March 15.

The Joiners present hotly-tipped Greater Manchester band Lottery Winners on Saturday March 28, Brighton psychedelic rockers Toy on Friday January 31 and Isle of Wight singer Lauran Hibberd on Saturday February 15. Also in March, singer songwriter David Keenan and American rockers Plain White T’s also headline the St Mary Street venue.

After previously appearing at The Joiners, Talking Heads, The 1865 and on the main stage at Common People, The Sherlocks are returning to play at The Engine Rooms on Friday March 6.

The South Yorkshire band released their second top 20 album, Under Your Sky, in October and their recent singles Magic Man and NYC (Sing It Loud) have had respective Radio One and Radio X airplay. They will be supported by rising South Coast four piece Crystal Tides, whose latest single Deserter will be among new music showcased on the night.

Meanwhile, pop singer Mabel, who has been making waves with her hit songs Finders Keepers and Fine Line, brings her debut album, High Expectations, to 02 Guildhall Southampton on Sunday February 9.

Heartbreakers have Indoor Pets on Saturday February 1, South Coast favourites The Pretty Visitors on Sunday February 2 and October Drift on Sunday February 16. The 1865 bring Londoners Bombay Bicycle Club to Southampton on Tuesday January 21.

Other local highlights include The White Lakes, at Edge of The Wedge in Southsea on Saturday February 1, The Rifles (unplugged) at The Wedgewood Rooms on Frida February 21 and Twin Atlantic at The Old Fire Station, Bournemouth on Tuesday March 17.
