POLICE are warning Southbourne and Hengistbury Head residents not to let anyone they don't know into their homes after receiving a number of reports of 'aggressive Nottingham knockers'.
Officers from the Bournemouth East Neighbourhood Policing Team have urged those living in the area to be cautious after calls were made to Dorset Police this month.
An officer from the team said: "We've had reports of so-called ‘Nottingham knockers’ operating in the area.
"These are cold callers who sometimes say they are ex-prisoners. They will try to sell you goods at your door.
"They may have black bin liners or holdalls full of dusters or cleaning products.
"We have had reports that tactics have been fairly aggressive and intimidating.
"Our advice would be never to accept services from unsolicited callers who offer you goods or work at your door, or additionally over the telephone.
"Never let anyone into your property unless you know them or have made prior arrangements."
