A BROKEN rail between Brockenhurst and New Milton has blocked the Southampton bound line.

South Western Railway say that trains running through those stations may be cancelled or revised until 4pm today.

However, it is now believed there will be problems until 8pm.

Trains will terminate and terminate at Brockenhurst until further notice.

Replacement buses have been requested to run between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst.

A statement released by officials reads: "Due to a broken rail between New Milton and Brockenhurst the Southampton bound line is blocked. 

"Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until 8pm.

"We have been informed of a track defect between New Milton and Brockenhurst. This means that the line towards Southampton is blocked. As the line towards Southampton is blocked trains will not go past Brockenhurst as they would not be able to return. 

"Trains between Southampton Central and Bournemouth will run between Southampton Central and Brockenhurst. 

"Trains between Waterloo and Bournemouth will run between Waterloo and Southampton Central. 

"To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost, on CrossCountry between Bournemouth and Basingstoke in both directions.

"We have arranged replacement buses to run from Brockenhurst to Bournemouth."
