RUTHIN'S very own cinema is one of one of just 20 in the UK of its type to screen this year's runaway success story.

Anyone who simply can't wait for DVD release of Todd Philips' DC comic psychological thriller Joker, the Ruthin Community Cinema at Brynhyfryd School will show the movie on the big screen on Sunday.

Despite polarised reviews, since its original October run Joker has earned more than $1billion at the box office globally and continues to be screened at mainstream, December 15 cinema chains.

A spokesperson for the cinema said: "We've been chosen as one of only 20 community cinemas in the country to put a special screening of Joker before the holidays.

"The DVD release date has not even been confirmed yet."

The gritty take on the titular character, which stars Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role alongside Robert De Niro, present an alternate and ultra violent take on the origin of Batman's arch nemesis.
