A new event to encourage shoppers to support independent businesses is coming to town.

Totally Locally Bridport is launching the Bridport Passport, which will give customers the chance to win £50 whilst inviting them to shop locally this Christmas.

Shoppers can collect stamps for every £10 they spend at participating local, independent shops, but must have visited eight to complete the passport and be entered into a draw.

There will be five £50 vouchers up for grabs, as well as five £10 vouchers for customers that share the passport campaign on Facebook or Instagram, tagging @totallylocallybridport.

The event starts this Saturday and will run until Saturday, December 21, with prizes to be drawn later that day, giving winners a chance to spend before Christmas.

Totally Locally is a campaign being introduced in towns all over the country, encouraging and informing people of the benefits of shopping locally.

Totally locally Fiver Fest took place in Bridport during June and October, with around 70 businesses offering a host of £5 special offers to encourage people to support local shops. Organisers hope even more businesses, shops and service providers will take part in this new event.

Lydia Wilson, a member of Totally locally Bridport and a shopkeeper, is hoping that this campaign will encourage the public to shop more consciously.

She said: “We are very excited that the Bridport Passport is having its debut in time for Christmas.

“The modern tradition is now to shower each other with gifts. What better gift than to have thought carefully and mindfully about what you bought and where it came from.”
