Bournemouth is one of the most hardworking towns in the UK, says a new tool compiling a range of data.

Our town has ranked 11 out of 52 towns and cities in the UK.

The top ten include Birmingham, Bristol, Milton Keynes, Reading, Southend, Oxford, Cambridge, London, Brighton and Portsmouth.

The tool, created by Thomas Sanderson, uses average hours worked, number of start-ups, total jobs and unemployment rates to compile the list.

At the other end of the scale were Hull, Burnley, Sunderland, Blackburn and Swansea.

People working in Bournemouth on average work 49.6 hours a week, with a commute time of 26 minutes.

Business start-ups per 10,000 are 51 while the total jobs per 10,000 equate to 9,226.

The unemployment rate is 2.7 per cent.

Richard Petrie, marketing director at www.thomas-sanderson.co.uk, said: “Britain is certainly a nation that knows how to work hard, so it was interesting to look at different factors associated with this to see how working varied across the nation.

"We spend so much of our lives at work, so it’s important to give yourself enough time to wind-down and relax when you are not there.”
