A THUG inflicted a vicious unprovoked attack just hours after being released from prison.

Alex Gilbertson was jailed for 24 weeks last month for unprovoked attacks in Worthing.

He had shown a “flagrant disregard” for people and their property.

But the unemployed 42-year-old was released from prison, and on the same afternoon punched a man with a beer can in Rowlands Road, Worthing.

Gilbertson shouted: “What are you looking at?”

He was ignored, and followed the man before shouting: “Don’t walk away from me.”

The 50-year-old victim suffered a deep cut just below his eye.

Gilbertson, of Park Crescent, Worthing, pleaded guilty to committing grievous bodily harm at Lewes Crown Court. He was jailed for 21 months.

The police said “Gilbertson carried out this violent attack on an innocent person shortly after being released from prison.

“He has an extensive history of offending, and it is clear the community is a safer place without him on the streets.”
