A CHINESE teapot with an estimate of £1,000 to £2,000 sold for an astounding £800,000 at auction.
After frenzied bidding Guy Swinge brought the hammer down on a telephone bid to loud applause at Duke's in Dorchester.
The 'fine and rare celadon-glaze, pear-shaped teapot with Qianlong seal mark' attracted bidding from around the world at Duke's Asian art sale.
Earlier a jade meerkat figure with an estimate of £200 to £300 sold for £50,000.
