A PERSON had to be rescued from their car after it rolled onto its roof.

Emergency services were called to reports of a single-vehicle crash on the A3030 at North Wootton, near Sherborne, after lunchtime today.

The car rolled onto its roof and became ‘buried in a hedge’.

Meanwhile, firefighters used electric saws to cut away the hedge, so paramedics could treat the casualty.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Once we arrived the incident commander liaised with the paramedics who were already at the scene but struggling to gain access to the casualty due to the vehicle being on its roof and buried in a hedge.

“Crews used electric saws to cut away the hedge and tree to allow access for the paramedics to treat casualty assisted by one firefighter.

“Crews used hydronic cutting equipment to remove the read door to allow space to remove the casualty on a spinal board and safely into the awaiting ambulance.”

He added: “We would like to remind drivers to take extra care in these hazardous driving conditions.”

The A3030 is currently closed both ways from the A352 to West Lane near North Wootton.

Drivers are asked to find an alternative route while emergency services deal with the incident.

Pictures of the crash posted by the fire service show an air ambulance has landed near to the scene.
