Neighbours said police have been speaking to local residents, asking if they have seen anything suspicious over the last few days.

One told the Daily Echo: “The officer wouldn’t tell me what had happened but it seems to be something very serious.”

Another said she believes the occupant of the property is an elderly woman.

The property is opposite Travis Perkins where employees said there has been a lot of police activity in the area.

One said: “They turned up yesterday afternoon and have been here ever since.

“When we got to work at about 6am today there were more of them but some have left.”
