MANY towns and villages across Dorset are performing Christmas lights switch-ons.

If you're a lover of dazzling displays and Christmas cheer, here are ten places you can visit to get your Christmas light 'fix'.

1. The Bournemouth Christmas Tree Wonderland is an event that speaks for itself. Filled with over a 100 glittering trees and illuminations, the Wonderland event is the perfect opportunity to witness a wealth of various Christmas lights. Be guided by the illuminated trees through an enchanted walkway where you can encounter special features and surprises. The Bournemouth Christmas Tree Wonderland is free and takes place from November 15 – January 2, 2020 in the town centre.

2. Castlepoint Shopping Centre in Bournemouth are also holding a Christmas lights event. Join them on November 29 from 5-7pm for an evening of illuminations, fun festive entertainment and surprises.

3. Lymington High Street will host various Christmas stalls and the switching on of the Christmas lights on November 29. The lights will be switched on by The Mayor at 6:15pm, shortly followed by Father Christmas' arrival in Lymington.

4. The New Milton Christmas Festival is taking place on November 30 on Station Road. There will be entertainment, rides, French market, stalls and of course the switching on of the town's Christmas lights. The festival will take place from 11am-5.30pm.

5. Poole's Christmas Tree switch on event will take place on November 30. The high street will come to life with its dazzling Christmas lights. The event will begin at 4.45pm, with appearances from the mayor of Poole and cast from the pantomime at Poole Lighthouse.

6. Ferndown Christmas Lights Switch On and market will take place on November 30 at 5pm under the clock tower. As well as the light switch on, from 1pm in Penny’s Walk Ferndown there will be market stalls, music, bands, Santa, a raffle, nativity scene, games, rides and more.

7. The Christmas in Ringwood event marks the beginning of the Christmas season. On December 1there will be a variety of entertainment, a Christmas market full of homemade goods and of course the turning on of the lights in the town. Santa will be turning on the new lights at around 5.30pm

8. The spectacle that is the Runton Road Christmas Lights is returning on December 14. The countdown to the light switch on will be performed by Miss Poole. The Runton Road Christmas Lights will remain on throughout the festive period. They usually come on between 5pm and 6pm and begin to go off at 10pm. The best way to enjoy the various lights is to park at the bottom of the road or along in another road and walk up to the cul-de-sac. The illuminations will take place from December 14 2019 – January 2, 2020.

9. Winter Lights at Corfe Castle is taking place from December 14 to December 29, with various other dates in-between. Spectacular modern lighting effects transform the ancient Norman keep while contemporary lanterns, braziers and beacons light the way into the heart of the castle. You can explore the grounds whilst admiring the plethora of lights. It is recommended that a torch is brought for the walk due to darker areas and steep slopes surrounding the castle. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adults and dogs on leads are welcome.

The event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

10. On December 19 the skies will be lit up by the Bournemouth Christmas fireworks. From 9.30pm to 10pm there will be a dazzling display of fireworks at the Bournemouth Seafront. This event is free.
