'DRUGS and mobile phones' have been seized from a Renault Clio which hit a lamppost in an residential Bournemouth street in the early hours of this morning before its driver ran from police.

Part of Leven Avenue off Branksome Wood Road remains cordoned off after the incident.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Officers were called at 2.11am to a report of a single vehicle collision in Leven Avenue in Bournemouth.

"The car, a red Renault Clio, is reported to have collided with a lamppost.

"Officers attended but the occupants of the vehicle had left the area. A search was carried out, but they were not identified.

"It is reported that the car had previously failed to stop for officers a short time before.

The Clio was recovered and a quantity of suspected drugs and phones were seized from inside the car.

"No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident."

This morning, there is debris at the scene, including part of a bumper.

The Leven Avenue road sign at the bottom of the street has also been torn out of the ground.
