CHILDREN are invited to switch off their phones, tablets and televisions and explore the New Forest at a wild play day during the half term holiday. Activities include creating woodland instruments, water activities and a woodland obstacle course.
The wild play day will run from 10am to 3pm on Wednesday, October 30 at Holmsley Campsite near Burley. Booking is not required and families can drop in any time throughout the day.
Claire Pearce, New Forest National Park Authority wild play officer, said: “We are excited to be able to give families new ideas on how to have fun outside during the school holidays without spending lots of money. With mental health at the forefront of our minds, it’s important that we spend time with family during our busy lives to get outside and explore our surroundings in fun ways. This wild play day will give you fantastic ideas on how to keep your children busy and how you can spend more time outdoors together learning about the unique landscape you live in.
This year’s event will also include a pit stop for the family pooch. Families can take on the Bark Ranger Challenge and learn games to play with their four legged friends in the Forest, including sniffing out a treat, hide and seek or learning a new trick.
The Wild Play day is organised by the New Forest National Park Authority, Forestry England, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and Camping in the Forest.
* Free parking is available at the campsite (follow the signs on the day). For more details, visit newforestnpa.gov.uk/autumnwildplayday
