HUNDREDS of families have yet to apply for secondary or upper school places for their children despite the looming deadline

Applicants have until Thursday October 31 to apply for places for September next year.

In the Dorset Council area alone there are 500 children who have still not had an application submitted for them.

And people in the Christchurch area are being reminded that they have to apply through the BCP council school admissions team this year.

Cllr Andrew Parry, Cabinet member for Children, Education and Early Help at Dorset Council, said: "It’s really important that parents apply for a secondary or upper school place by October 31 as it will give them the best chance of being offered a place at one of their preferred schools. We know last year 97 per cent of Dorset children were offered their first choice secondary school, so getting those applications in is crucial.

"Unfortunately, applications received after this date will not be considered until the late round in March 2020, so please don’t take the risk of leaving it too late."
