A GROUNDWORKS company in Poole recently donated and installed a new driveway at a home occupied by clients of a Dorset disabled charity, free of charge.

Gould Groundworks and Plant Hire, based at Lytchett Matravers, was asked to dig up and resurface a driveway of a bungalow on Maureen Close in Parkstone used for accommodation by Diverse Abilities.

Company director Ben Gould said: “The property we have done the work for is a shared living space. There are two people in the property, one of them being my aunt.

“My aunt uses a wheelchair when she goes out for long periods of time and her housemate uses a wheelchair permanently so they both required wheelchair access to the property.”

As the property didn’t have sufficient space for parking, carers were forced to park further up the road the property is on.

The company, along with WT Construction, the business they use to outsource their tarmacking to, finished the job within a day, both deciding to offer their services for free.

“The cares have told us that is makes their lives so much easier,” Ben continued.

“We didn’t want to charge them for the drive because we felt that they do so much for disabled people in Bournemouth and Poole.

“Because they help care for my mum’s sister and by providing her with her own accommodation with carers assisting them, it has changed her life because she has more freedom to do the things she’d like to do.

“We want to thank WT Construction for joining us in offering their service free of charge.”

Sharon Kozak, team leader within Diverse Abilities, said: “Our tenants living at the property require 24/7 support due to their disabilities and therefore it had been an additional challenge to manage the maintenance at the front of the property whilst also attending to the needs of those requiring our full support.

“Gould Groundworks and Plant Hire and W.T. Construction were instrumental in making this all run smoothly and we are so thankful for their very generous contribution.”
