A SERIAL fuel thief who stole more than £250 of diesel has been jailed.

Stephen Joseph Dempsey, of Lower Buckland Road, Lymington, targeted petrol stations over an 11-day spree.

He first stole £105 of diesel from a petrol station at Picket Post, A31, on August 16.

The 40-year-old also stole £33 of diesel from a petrol station in Lymington on August 19, £70 of diesel from a petrol station in Hordle on August 21 and £64 of diesel from a petrol station in Cadnam on August 27.

Dempsey was caught driving without a licence and driving without insurance in West Wellow on the same day as the fuel theft from Cadnam.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to four counts of fuel theft, one count of driving without a licence and one count of driving without insurance.

He also pleaded guilty to the theft of a Gosway padded jacket, worth £169, from Joules in Lymington on September 11.

Dempsey was jailed for eight weeks and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.
