A 13-YEAR-OLD local boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is assisting officers with their enquiries following a fire in Boscombe last night.

Dorset Police say they received a report from the fire service at 12.01am on Wednesday October 2 of a fire at a flat in Haviland Road in Bournemouth.

Officers attended to assist the fire service and keep members of the public safe. A total of five people, two adults and three children, were rescued from the property by the fire service and were taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation and what were believed to be minor burns.

A total of 10 people were displaced by the incident and had to be accommodated elsewhere.

Dorset Police is continuing to liaise with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In a statement the force said: "Following enquiries, a 13-year-old local boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is assisting officers with their enquiries."
