A NEW 30mph speed limit has been introduced in Ringwood Road, Ferndown after the town council raised fears for road safety.
The reduced speed limit came into effect on September 20.
Officials decided to change the limit after a history of crashes along the stretch, especially at the junction with Glenmoor Road.
Other speed management measures have previously been considered and introduced, including speed cameras.
However, the crashes have continued, it was said.
Objectors said the changes were a 'money-making exercise' spearheaded by Dorset Police. However, bosses at the force said it is a 'genuine attempt to make the roads safer', and has been led by Dorset Council.
The speed camera on the stretch has been re-set for the new limit.
