AN elderly woman has put up with a "horrible stench" in her home for an entire year following a dispute between her housing association company and Thames Water.

Marie Swash has lived in her property in Bracknell for over 50 years and has never felt more disappointed with Silva Homes.

The resident has complained to the Housing Association company about her blocked drain which is causing a horrid smell in her home but they say it is Thames Waters problem to deal with.

However, Marie has said when Thames Water come round they manage to 'temporarily' fix it but then within a couple of days it is blocked again.

She said: "I am at the end of my tether. I am perfectly good tenant and I have never owed a penny in rent and this is what I get - scum and flies.

" I am just getting so upset by it and I feel like no one is there to help me. just do not know who I can turn too anymore."

Ms Swash has also been told that her blocked drain is being caused by a nearby property but because the owners aren't in, there is nothing that can be done.

A Thames Water spokesman said: “A fault in a nearby property has been causing the sewer to back up but we have been unable to contact the owner of this property to carry out the repair.

“In the meantime we’re pumping out the sewers at Ms Swash’s property on a daily basis to prevent flooding.”

A Silva Homes spokesman said: "Thames Water is responsible for the drain, as it is shared with several other properties on that road.

"We are working with Ms Swash to resolve the problem with her drain, so that she can have peace of mind. We always do what we can for our customers, so whenever our drainage engineers are called in to deal with a blockage, they try to clear or alleviate the problem, before contacting the responsible utility company directly to provide additional technical information and accelerate the issue’s resolution."
