1. THE streets of Ringwood will be awash with colour and music for the town’s carnival on Saturday. Thousands of people will line the streets for an afternoon procession at 2pm followed by an illuminated evening procession at 7.15pm. A funfair will be open between 6.30pm and 10pm on Thursday and Friday and from midday until late on Saturday. There will be children’s games, stalls, arts and crafts, face painting, demonstrations, entertainment and live music. A firework finale from Paines Fireworks at Bickerley Green at 9.30pm will end the day with a bang.

2. A FREE language festival will be held on Sunday from 11am to 4pm in King's Park, Boscombe welcoming artists from as far as Africa. The free event will host performances from artists from more than 20 different countries with visitors welcome to participate in workshops and tutorials led by language teachers and performers.

3. HAVING set two Guinness World Record titles with his previous sell-out live UK and Ireland tour, Professor Brian Cox, OBE is heading back to the BIC on Friday. The show promises to offer a fascinating insight into the workings of nature at the most fundamental level. Brian will once again be joined by co-host of The Infinite Monkey Cage and award-winning comedian Robin Ince to oversee an audience Q&A.

4. FOR the first time the National Trust has teamed up with Firefly Events to bring the big screen to the serene surroundings of Brownsea Island, with two nights of cinema under the stars – Top Gun on Friday and The Greatest Showman on Saturday. For those not wanting to rush for the last ferry back to the mainland, the campsite will remain open until the end of September. Cinema tickets cost £12.50 for adults and £8 for children and do not include ferry fare, which costs £7 return and is payable direct to private ferry provider. 5. MORE than 9,000 people in Dorset are living with dementia. On Saturday there will be a Memory Walk a 3.5k or 8k route organised by The Alzheimer’s Society starting at 11am from Bournemouth Pier. Registrations close today, Thursday, September 19.

6. A FREE Park Yoga session will take place in Bournemouth Central Gardens on Sunday from 10am. Everyone is invited and all abilities welcome whether you are looking to experience yoga for the first time, try a new class or just want to enjoy the natural surroundings. Just bring your mat if you have one or a towel and some water.

7. DISCOVER White Mill, an historic corn mill on the banks of the picturesque River Stour with free entry for all visitors this weekend as part of the National Heritage Open Days Festival. Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,500 organisations and more than 46,000 volunteers across the country to celebrate our rich and diverse heritage. At White Mill you can relax by the river and watch the wildlife, explore the mill and its original wooden machinery, and discover more about volunteering opportunities throughout the year.

8. A MINI Steam and Vintage Day will be held at Wimborne Model Town from 10am on Saturday with miniature steam traction engines providing free rides around the buildings. Visitors can also enjoy free trips on Bear Cross Bus Company’s classic Bournemouth Yellow Bus and there will be a great line up of classic vehicles and motorbikes.
