ON view were huge veteran cars, more than 50 makes of British motorcycles, huge showmen’s engines and stationary engines.
The Great Dorset Steam Fair was a popular one in August and September 1989 with around 150,000 visitors stomping the showground over the course of five days.
The rural crafts of yesteryear were celebrated as shire horses paraded and worked in all their finery.
However, the greatest attraction came from a different age in the form of wonderful steam and traction engines, lovingly cared for by their enthusiastic and dedicated owners.
The Great Dorset Steam Fair, at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford, provided a nostalgic opportunity to see behemoths from the age of steam and continues to do so annually to this very day.
