IT was the fourth event of its kind and the highest attended up to that date - the Boscombe Community Fair on September 4, 1999, was a clear hit confirmed by the crowds which flocked to see local bands and performers.
More than 200 people were involved in running stalls and shows and at the fair in Kings Park.
Committee member Graham Wood told the Echo at the time: “There were hordes of people. It was the best we have ever had.”
Around 1,500 people piled on to see a host of attractions which included bands, fire jugglers, a dog show and arts exhibition.
“The community fair was originally set up because at the time Boscombe was getting particularly negative press and we wanted to celebrate the more positive aspects of the area,” said Mr Wood. “There is a wealth of local talent.”
