A DRIVER returning from dropping off a young child at school 'tested positive for cannabis', police claim.

Officers from Dorset Police's No Excuse team were out in Bournemouth and East Dorset yesterday.

At 9am, the team stopped a vehicle on the school run and discovered the driver's licence had been revoked and the car had no insurance.

The driver then failed a drug test, which read positive for cannabis, it was claimed. He was arrested and the vehicle was seized.

Police then stopped a car in Ferndown. It hadn't been properly taxed since January.

A spokesperson for No Excuse said: "The driver stated he had so many vehicles in his fleet he hadn't kept on top of them all."

A short time later, the team stopped a driver speeding at 80 miles per hour in Broadstone Way, where the limit is 40mph.

The driver told officers he was late for work.

Later that morning, police stopped a Ford Focus RS travelling at 70mph in a 50mph limit in Ferndown. Officers said: "The driver became very emotional.

"He said he currently pays £3,000 a year for insurance, and three points would mean he wouldn't be able to pay to insure his car."
