A WOMAN in her sixties sadly died on Weymouth Beach.
An emergency services response saw people cleared from the beach on Sunday afternoon and a cordon put in place so that the air ambulance could land, however the woman, who was from Weymouth, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman from Dorset police said they were called by the ambulance service to provide crowd control.
"We were called at 2.54pm on Sunday September 15 by the ambulance service to reports of a medical incident involving a woman on the beach in Weymouth.
"Officers attended at their request to assist with crowd control.
"Very sadly the woman – aged in her 60s and from Weymouth – was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin was with her.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed."
Police and paramedics were initially called to the scene to a person needing urgent medical attention.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust said they were contacted at 2.40pm.
"We sent several resources including the air ambulance", they added.
Commenting at the time of the incident, a Dorset Police spokesman said that officers were in attendance to assist the ambulance service and provide crowd control to maintain the dignity of the injured person.
A spokesman for the coastguard confirmed that the beach RNLI lifeguards were in attendance
"The lifeguards are dealing with the situation", they said.
"The beach is being cleared to allow a helicopter to land."
