STRIKING flowers and produce made the Bournemouth In Bloom Autumn Show a spectacular feast for the eyes.

Dahlias, sweet smelling roses, runner beans, tomatoes, potatoes and more were plentifully displayed at St Francis of Assisi Church Hall in Charminster. There were more than 300 entries and exhibitors were aged from four to 91.

Chris Colledge, chairman of Bournemouth In Bloom, praised the quality and quantity of flowers, plants and produce on show and described the event as “a most delightful occasion”. It was, he said, “inspirational and full of colour and splendour”.

He added: “Appreciation is extended to all who exhibited, won awards and worked so hard to make the Autumn Show such a successful and memorable event.”

Best In Show was a magnificent vase of Autumn coloured mixed annuals exhibited by experienced grower David Bassil from Westbourne. He was presented his award by Bournemouth Mayor Susan Phillips.

First time exhibitor Mrs McKennon, 91, proved that you’re never too old to do something new. The judges awarded her a first for a stunning flowering orchid in the pot plant category. There were several interesting entries from children including wins for Karenza Dibden, 10, for a quirky creature made out of fruit and veg, and Copélia Stuart, 5, for her ladybirds on a leaf creation in the ‘Handmade Item’ category.

Top dahlia man Andy Savage from Downton took three trophies for displays of perfect blooms and there were firsts for Peter Whiting for vegetables, Sue Gravgaard for dessert grapes and Chris Colledge for floral arrangements.
