A TOTAL of eight records across a variety of events were smashed by pupils at a school sports day.

Second year pupil Amanda Halliday achieved her best high jump on home ground at the Ringwood Comprehensive School sports day on July 13, 1979.

Fifteen-year-old Julie Christopher came first in the fourth year girls’ 800 metres race, setting a new record of 2 minutes 48.9 seconds.

Other new school records were set by Richard Bailey, who completed the 800 metres first and second year race in 2 minutes 31.3 seconds; 12-year-old Julia Lane with a 200 yard sprint in 29.7 seconds; third year pupil Jane Phillpott with a 9.2 metre shot putt throw, and fourth year pupil Rejmal Gogan who achieved a 10.7 metre shot throw.

Two relay teams - comprised of Julia Lane, Richard Christopher , Samantha Lomax, Kean Fotherby, Patrick West, Michaela Mitchell, Julian Titt, Julie Christopher and Jeremy Brown - also broke records.
