AROUND 100 bales of hay were destroyed in a huge fire in Swanage on Saturday evening.

A shed was also set ablaze during the incident.

Dozens of firefighters were called to the fire in Townsend Road at around 5.40pm.

Officials say the bales burned after a nearby fire in a field spread to an agricultural shed.

Crews from Swanage, Wareham, Hamworthy and Poole attended.

A Swanage fire station spokesman said: "Crews worked hard with a shortage of water to stop it spreading further."

A re-inspection of the scene was due to take place yesterday.
