A GRIEVING son has turned his grief into action by embarking on an 1800-mile cycle journey to raise funds for Macmillan Caring Locally.

Joined by his two friends Jack Curtin, an outdoor enthusiast and final year student, and Josh Worsey, a bike shop manager from New Zealand, James Waggott, a landscaper by trade, will be cycling from Morocco to Christchurch as a thank you for the palliative care his Mum received, as well as the guidance and family support provided to them by Macmillan.

The trio flew out to Marrakech on Friday August 30 with their bikes and panniers and set off on their cycle ride on Monday September 2.

Susanna Curtin, Jack’s mum, said: “Cycling 60 to 80 miles each day, they will be heading northwest from Marrakesh to pick up the road along the Western seaboard to Oualidia.

“Here they will board a ferry to Tarifa, Gibraltar. Once in Spain, they will head northwest to Jerez de la Frontera then north towards Seville, Merida, and Caceres, until turning north East towards San Sebastian for their final stretch up the French coast to St Malo and a homeward bound ferry for Poole. Tired legs will carry them along home straits for a welcome party in Christchurch.”

All donations go directly towards the £10,000,000 needed by the Brick by Brick, Macmillan new unit appeal so that more patients and their families can benefit from the invaluable work they do.
