A BUSY Dorset road was closed for three hours after a collision between a car and a pick-up truck.

A woman had to be cut from the wreckage of her Toyota RAV4 after the accident on the A31 just before 5pm on Sunday.

Emergency services closed a stretch of the road between the Canford Bottom and Merley roundabouts at 4.54pm.

A diversion was put in place via B3073, A348, A341 and A349.

The woman was released from the vehicle and suffered slight head and leg injuries.

The driver of the red and white pick-up truck was not hurt.

Police said a third vehicle was also damaged by a trailer which was being towed behind the truck.

The collision caused traffic delays in the area.

Highways workers were called to clear debris from the road, which was reopened at 8pm.
