AFTER the Daily Echo announced that a state-of-the-art water park is to be planned near Bournemouth Airport on Wednesday, over a thousand of you commented to our Facebook post, expressing both excitement and concern.

Costa Acodrinesei of Elysium Water Park have outlined a vision for a £75m aqua park and stated it would be a "year-round, weather-independent destination" that would "put Dorset on the map".

Here's what you had to say:

Glen Dimascio said: "This is incredible and would be so beneficial to Bournemouth and surrounding areas. Our children would love this. Long overdue."

Angela Moore reciprocated: "Would absolutely love to see this!! Let’s say seeing is believing and hope it gets built!! Let’s see if the roads that are being worked on now make a difference?"

"What an excellent idea one more thing added to the six-week holiday list ideas," said John Pearce.

Many residents were worried about the lack of infrastructure near Hurn, most notably the current road layout which already suffers from congestion.

Nick Levens said: "Yes, great idea, but get the infrastructure right with traffic. Sell it as a holiday in Bournemouth so people use other great facilities in the area too! A good bus service from Poole, Christchurch and Bournemouth."

Dionne Darnell agreed: "Great idea but no one would be able to get to it because of poor road infrastructure."

Tania Iles commented: "Great idea ... one thing’s for sure though the infrastructure around that area would not be able to cope with those projected numbers."

Daniel Rose commented: "Its certainly would be a massive tourism boost to the area and would be welcome to rebalance the local economy away from the students education and stag/hen parties, but I would question the prospect of an attraction which is forecast to have anything between 576,000 and 923,000 visitors over 75 acres in the only county in England without a motorway, let alone local roads which barely cope now.

"Massive infrastructure improvements would be needed."

Others expresses outrage about the fact that the new water park is due to be built on Bournemouth’s greenbelt, and the £75m could be put to better use by helping to tackle the current climate and environmental problems in the area.

Darcie Mia Lewis Shame said: "More fields, trees, greenery will be covered over with concrete even though we have a natural water park - the beach - so close by."

Ruthie Ru said: "Love how everyone is stating what a fabulous idea this is when yet more green space would be concreted over!

"People really have no idea of environmental catastrophe do they!"

"Can't we invest the money into how Dorset is going to be more environmentally conscious in its everyday life? We've got the sea we don't need a water park. Unpopular opinion perhaps," argued Samantha Clayson.

But most remained sceptical until further plans were released as the article in question included just one picture of an artist’s impression of the water park. Until more pictures and plans are delivered, many readers remain undecided about the project.

Jayne Ingram said: "Sounds great but no business plan in place or finance available. The chosen land is also greenbelt... I’d say the possibility is slim."

Nikki Parker agreed: "No approved plans, no finance in place, huge increase in traffic with a road infrastructure that is already at breaking point, greenbelt land! Never going to happen is my best bet, somebody's dream at best."

Samantha Jones commented: "I think this would be great in Bournemouth, however is Parley the best place with traffic already so bad there? I’ve been saying for ages that we need a big outdoor pool area for adults to enjoy with their families. It’s long overdue. Without plans though, I will believe it when I see it."
