POLICE were called to a Christchurch car park after a dog was left in a vehicle as temperatures soared on Saturday.

Officers from the town's neighbourhood policing team reported the incident on Facebook during the morning.

They said: "Just attended a car park following a call regarding a hot dog in a vehicle.

"We gained access to the vehicle, retrieved the dog and gave it some water.

"The owner returned shortly after... very strong words of advice were given.

"On top of this they had also left a wallet, laptop and sat navs in the car."

Temperatures peaked at 26c on Saturday.
